Less than 5% of CPL Holder Do This.

With everything going on in this country, people have started to realize something I have said for over a decade, "The only one responsible for your safety, is YOU!" Responsible citizens are flocking to purchase firearms and ammunition. They are also signing up for any spot that is open for Concealed Pistol License ("CPL") class. These are not only long time firearm owners signing up for classes, but first time firearm owners as well.

Standards for CPL classes are set Under MCL 28.425j by the State of Michigan. At the very least, a CPL class must have 5 hours of classroom instruction and 3 hours of hands on instruction with the pistol which includes live fire at the range for a grand total class time of 8 hours.

With that said, after taking a CPL class there should come a point for each student where they say, "that class was NOT enough. It was not enough to prepare me to defend my life. It was not enough to prepare me to defend my family." Regardless of how many years you have owned and shot firearms, using a pistol to defend yourself is serious business, and so is knowing Michigan's Self Defense Laws.

I often tell my students who take my Basic Concealed Pistol class, this class is NOT enough to prepare you to defend your life. A CPL class is a dump truck full of information, that the State of Michigan requires, and it is being dumped on you. You need to take the time and spend the money for additional training courses to give you the hands on skills you need to successfully defend yourself and loved ones.

This concept of taking additional training courses is not often sought after by CPL Holders. In the training community, instructors can expect to see less than 5% of CPL Holders take additional training classes beyond their CPL class.

This means roughly 95% of people who take a basic CPL class think they have achieved enough training. We at Radzwion Law, PLLC, strongly disagree and here is why.

Today's Culture:

In the fallen, sin-cursed world we live in, making split second decisions between life and death should be something a CPL Holder has repeatedly trained for. A marathon takes hundreds of hours of training to prepare for just one event. An 8 hour CPL class is like you tying one shoe before you start training for a marathon.

According to the FBI who collects crime data, the average self defense encounter includes 3 Shots fired in 3 Seconds at 3 Yards (9 feet). It happens faster than you can tie one of your shoes! 3 Shots, 3 Seconds, 3 Yards. If you second guess your decision to defend yourself or your family, its too late.

Defense in Court:

Additionally, there are the legal issues that come from defending yourself. Court is expensive, time consuming and emotionally draining. I am a firm believer that the more training you have, the less likely you will ever find yourself turning to a firearm, which is a tool of LAST resort to defend yourself. Never having to use your firearm is always the goal. But, if you end up in a situation where you have no other option, you want to know that your very fast decisions are, ethical, moral and legal.

When you take additional training courses with Radzwion Law, PLLC, we cover topics discussed in this article and more. This will better prepare you protect your life and loved ones both in court and on the street.

In Conclusion:

A CPL Class is not enough.
